Volunteer with Cowgirl Spirit!!!

Cowgirl Spirit is a completely volunteer-run organization and we need your help to save the lives of these amazing animals. Whether you have a couple hours per month or several days per week to contribute, we want to find was for you to help. Please read through the following volunteer job descriptions and then fill out our volunteer application to get involved.

Morning / Evening Feeder

Job Description: Spend one (or more) evening or morning per week feeding and caring for 4 rescues housed in Sammamish, WA. Feed, pasture/stall cleaning, and basic grooming.
Location: Sammamsih, WA
Minimum Time Commitment: 2 hours, 1 day per week
Desired Qualifications:

• 1+ years experience working with horses with solid knowledge of safe handling
• Ability to life up to 50lbs
• At least 18 years of age or direct supervision by adult with equine experience

Handler / Groomer

Job Description: Provide extra attention and basic handling (grooming, hand-walking, grazing) for rescues
Location: Renton or Sammamish, WA
Minimum Time Commitment: 2 hours per week
Desired Qualifications:

• 3+ months experience working with horses and safe handling knowledge
• At least 18 years of age or direct supervision by adult with strong equine experience

Trainer

Job Description: Work with rescues from the ground and in the saddle to develop trust in humans, ground manners, and confidence under saddle
Location: Renton, WA
Minimum Time Commitment: 2 hours per week
Desired Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience working with horses
• Strong riding and groundwork knowledge
• Patience and ability to modify training style to accommodate horses with special backgrounds and needs
• At least 18 years of age

Riding Member

Job Description: Attend Weekly practices and perform with the drill team as performances are scheduled
Location: Renton, WA
Minimum Time Commitment: 5-6 hours each Sunday, 1 full weekend (Sat-Sun) per month
Desired Qualifications:

• 2+ years experience working with horses
• Strong equitation / riding ability
• Ability to work with horses with differing training levels and abilities

Project Leader

Job Description: Work with volunteer coordinator to plan and lead 3-6 hour work parties and/or small fundraisers (pasture cleanings, car washes, etc) in the Sammamish and surrounding areas.
Location: Sammamish, WA
Minimum Time Commitment: 5 hours one weekend day per month plus 1-2 hours per week planning/setup
Desired Qualifications:

• Strong organizational / project planning skills
• Ability to communicate with potential volunteers via phone and email
• Ability to lead groups of 4-10 volunteers in accomplishing project goals
• Basic knowledge of horse safety and ability to recognize / prevent safety hazards

Committee Member

Job Description: Participate as part of a committee to accomplish goals pertaining to Cowgirl Spirit's mission and growth. Committees include Fundraising, Publicity / Marketing, Grant Writing, Newsletter / Website Content and more
Location: Sammamish / Renton / Seattle, WA
Minimum Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week
Desired Qualifications:

• Strong written / oral communication skills
• Ability to regularly read and respond to emails
• Desire to develop a comprehensive understanding of Cowgirl Spirit's mission, current growth / development, and short and long-term goals

Maintenance Volunteer

Job Description: Help with routine pasture / barn maintenance including pasture cleanup, scrubbing water buckets, branch / weed removal, etc.
Location: Renton or Sammamish, WA
Minimum Time Commitment:1-2 hours per week
Desired Qualifications:

• Ability to perform light physical labor
• Comfort around horses
• At least 12 years of age or direct adult supervision
