Zoe

Arabian mare (11 year old)

Zoe joined Cowgirl Spirit on 11/15/05 after the airing of our Evening Magazine episode on November 9th. Her owner contacted us as a last resort for Zoe, previously named Maggie, since other rescues in the area declined to take her. With no where else to turn, Zoe's last option was the auction yard. Being unbroke, barely handled, atrocious ground manners, and extremely underweight, it was of no doubt that Zoe would most likely be picked up by the meatman. Cowgirl Spirit agreed to take her. The first sight of Zoe coming out of the trailer was appalling, and to learn she had never been separated from her mother was even sadder. She cried for the first night but after that seemed to settle in quite well. It was quickly noticed that Zoe was infested with worms, and with the guidance of a vet we slowly took care of this problem as to lower the chances of colic. Zoe's first few training sessions were difficult for her, since all of her other previous dealings with humans were on HER terms. Rearing up, striking out, and flipping over backwards was a common occurrence in the past and something that had to be stopped for her own safety and the safety of her handlers. She quickly learned that she wasn't the "leader", and peacefully relaxed into her new position as follower. She has been an angel to work with, quite the cuddler, and a great pleasure to have on our team. Zoe has proved herself to be a very quick learner and tries her hardest. She has made an enormous change from when she first came to us, both in personality and body condition. The person who ends up with this special horse will be very lucky!
